Pole fire causes power outage

COXHEATH — A telephone pole fire in the Coxheath area is believed to have been the cause of a power outage late Thursday afternoon

The fire happened around 5 p.m. on a pole on Coxheath Road and affected more than 3,200 Nova Scotia Power customers from Coxheath to Grand Narrows.

Nova Scotia Power's original estimation time for power to return was 5:30 a.m. Friday, however, the issue was resolved around 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Coxheath Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire, while Nova Scotia Power officials arrived on scene shortly after.

The cause of the fire was unknown at publication time.

Three other power outages were also reported in Cape Breton as of 7:55 p.m. Thursday each affecting fewer than five customers.
