WOOD, Janet Louise

Age 85, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2023 in South Shore Regional Hospital. Hers was a life well-lived. Born August 3, 1937 in Bridgewater to Irving and Helen Wood (Fraser), Janet married Donald Oxner (deceased) in 1959 and lived in the Middleton area where they raised their children, Grant (Debra Franz), Greg, and Gidget. Janet married Mike Parkyn (deceased) in 1986 and was a loving stepmother to Heather Desveaux (Greg). For the last 30 years, Peter Bornhym was Janet’s companion and travel partner enjoying trips to Florida, Cuba, and the Netherlands. Janet shared a special friendship with Peter’s daughter Patricia Bornhym. Janet’s greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren, Tasha Oxner (Alex Dorliac) and great-granddaughter Maesy, from Shinfield, United Kingdom; Devrie Oxner (Tyler Fahlenbock), from New Hamburg, Ont.; and Connor Mcassey, from Fredericton,n.b. After years as a “horse show Mom”, Janet became a judge for local competitions as well as an Equestrian Canada Steward. Janet’s home was always open to her children’s friends. She was a safe person to confide in, seek advice from, and act as an advocate if necessary. She even hosted travelers her children found camping along the Annapolis River, offering a hot meal, showers, and laundry along with a safe space to pitch a tent. She had a lifelong career in banking, predominantly with Scotiabank, in various branches and positions before retiring in 1995. Never one to be idle, she enjoyed painting and gardening, creating beauty inside and out. Cremation has taken place. A private family graveside interment will be scheduled for a future date. Janet touched many lives and will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the staff at Ashwood Lodge and South Shore Regional Hospital for the excellent care she received.
