THINK THIS IS TOUGH?

My grandmother was born in 1890. She lived through two world wars (in which some 80 million people died) and in London, England, while it was heavily bombed.

She bore two children during the First World War and had to contend with numerous restrictions, including rationing of food, blackouts and travel restrictions.

She also experienced the Great Depression, during which her husband, who worked in an employment office, was stoned by angry men because he had no jobs for them. He was ill for quite a while with TB, from which he died in his 40s. Her ordeals in life were not unusual for that time.

So, next time you want to complain about wearing masks, vaccines and social distancing, remember her and realize you’re not so badly off after all.
