CBU’S Letlow, Dal’s Bouma named athletes of week

Cape Breton rookie Kiyara Letlow, who combined for 50 points and 44 rebounds in the Capers’ women’s basketball wins against UNB and Saint Mary’s on the weekend, was named the Atlantic university female athlete of the week on Tuesday.

In Saturday’s 70-53 win over the Reds, the six-foot-one forward collected 21 points and 21 rebounds. The next day, Letlow had 29 points and 23 boards as CBU slipped past the Huskies 75-69 in overtime.

Letlow leads the conference with 21.4 points per game and second in rebounding (15.1).

Dalhousie’s Adam Bouma earned the AUS male athlete honour.

The first-year swimmer led the Tigers to a team victory at the Kemp-fry Invitational meet at Dalplex on the weekend. Bouma earned three first-place finishes (50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke) and set a new school, conference, and provincial senior record in the 100m breaststroke (1:01.87).
