NIX, Karen Elizabeth

Age 79, passed away on November 24, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Douglas Lorimer Nix who passed away November 27, 2018; her parents, Stanley Moss and Elsie Moss (Dobson); and her siblings, Gloria Hiltz and John Moss. She is survived by her daughter, Terri Chabot and her husband Andre of Caledon, Ont.; son, Dale Nix and his wife Sharon (Frail) of Enfield; grandchildren, Breana, Evan, and Joel Chabot; and brothers, Bruce and Don Moss. Karen was born on March 5, 1942, in Truro. She graduated from Oxford Regional High School with a 94 average. She then went on to Truro Business College in 1961 where she took courses in secretarial, accounting and typing. She and Douglas were married in 1961 and moved to Oshawa, Ont., where Karen stayed home to look after their two children. Karen was a wonderful mother. She was loving and supportive, yet firm when she needed to be. Her children were very fortunate. The Nix family moved back to the Maritimes in 1966. In 1973, Karen rejoined the work force where she did temporary assignments with Office Overload, including a placement at Aberdeen Paving. She was hired by Aberdeen in 1978 and worked with them for 19 years working her way up to Office Manager. Karen and Doug retired in 1997 and spent the next two years travelling throughout Canada and the United States. As grandchildren were born, Karen wanted a home base, so they spent their summers in Kingston and their winters in Florida. Karen was a doting grandmother – she made them each feel so very loved. Wintering in Florida allowed Karen and Doug to golf yearround. She was an excellent golfer winning a few tournaments and shooting three holes in one during her golfing career. Those who knew Karen would describe her as intelligent and kind with a great sense of humour. She was so very much loved and respected by her husband, children, grandchildren, and those who knew her. She will be greatly missed. There will be a visitation from 12-2 p.m. on Saturday, December 4th in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., in Halifax. COVID-19 restrictions apply: proof of double vaccine and photo ID required. A eulogy will be given at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
