JONES, Melvina Ilean

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mom and sister on November 27, 2021 at the age of 67. Born in Upper Hammonds Plains on May 12, 1954, she was the daughter of Shirley and the late Christopher Jones. Melvina retired from Dalhousie University after 25 years of service. She was extremely active in the church and the community. She was a faithful and dedicated member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church and served as Superintendent and Teacher of the EBC Kids Ministry, Church Clerk, Nomination committee Chair, Church anniversary and Fun day Chair, Church special events Coordinator, Coordinator of the Christmas cheer boxes, Member of the building fund committee, Member of the Usher Board, Seamstress for the Word in Motion Dance Troupe, Assistant to the Director of every Children’s Christmas Musical, Finance Chair for the AUBA, the AUBA District 2 Representative, Secretary of the UHP Cemetery committee and Secretary of the Senior’s of UHP group. Melvina led and supported the success of numerous groups and ministries. She worked behind the scenes – never seeking recognition or acknowledgement. She was the community go-to person. Community members went to her to have their income tax completed, helped filled out forms or applications as well as community seamstress. She loved helping everyone and lived a beautiful and fully devoted life as an outstanding volunteer. She had that loud infectious laugh that would make you smile and brighten up a room. Melvina’s love for all the children in her life was endless. She is survived by her daughter Ann Alee (Kirk), Hammonds Plains; partner Robert, East Preston; her pride and joy, grandchildren, Aliyah and Aydan; sisters, Sherlene (Myles), Lila, Debbie, Gina; brothers, Philip (Monica), Reid (Kim), Walter (Lilena), Christopher (Selena), Wrenfred; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and her besties for 50 years, Martha and Kandi and many other special friends. The celebration of life service will take place on Thursday, December 9th in Emmanuel Baptist Church at 1 p.m., Rev Dr. Lennett J. Anderson officiating. Visitation will be the same day at 12 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to Serenity Lindsey Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Melvina may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church Kids Ministry. Interment to follow the service in Upper Hammonds Plains Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. Due to COVID19 restrictions proof of vaccination along with a valid ID and masks are required.
