VOICE OF THE PEOPLE

DAY OF INHUMANITY

Tuesday was the last day I could see my mom at Milford Haven Home for Special Care in Guysborough because I don’t want to be vaccinated.

I have complied with all the rules of social distancing, wearing a mask, limiting my movements, sanitizing ad nauseam, and I have virtually no social life. The area I live in has had virtually no cases of COVID since the pandemic started, and yet, because I refuse to take a newly developed vaccine whose efficacy dwindles after a few months, I am refused access to my 90-yearold mother.

I don’t care about going to restaurants, visiting Halifax, going to events, etc., because I am deemed a danger to society. All I care about is being by my mother’s side and helping her transition at the end of her life.

I have offered to be tested before each visit as a valid way to continue to see her, and that wasn’t good enough, even though vaccinated people have to be tested when travelling.

I don’t trust the provincial government anymore. The contradictions are mind-boggling. All I can say is shame on you for segregating and discriminating against anyone who chooses not to get vaccinated. Deciding not to accommodate all constituents is disgraceful.

There are many people like me who must face this day with sorrow, knowing they have to live with their choice, but who are still standing by their convictions. There are protests all over the world against this tyranny and the loss of our rights and freedoms. These are not delusional people but it’s your average person who is leaving their career in solidarity so our children and grandchildren can live in a free and democratic society.

There is no humanity in what this government is doing.
