AMHERST - Once again this year, Amherst churches are partnering to create a meaningful opportunity to mark Good Friday in the community. On April 10 at 11 a.m., people will gather at First Baptist Church on Victoria Street to walk the Way of the Cross. From there, the procession will follow a large wooden cross along the quiet downtown streets. This year, the procession will make eight stops including the cenotaph, CANSA, the food bank, Cumberland YMCA, Mental Health, Indigenous Affairs, the police department and town hall. It’s anticipated the walk will take about 30 minutes and offer an opportunity not only to reflect upon the historical death of Jesus Christ but also to reflect upon the contemporary injustices and struggles facing the community and area. Christians are called to be part of building a better world by sharing the humility, sacrifice, compassion and love of Christ with each other. This journey will tug on heart strings and prepare hearts and minds for Easter. Editor's note: Cancellations have affected various community events due to Covid-19 concerns. Readers should check to see if this event is going ahead before attending.
