Tantramar Seniors College cancels spring classes
AMHERST, N.S. – The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed a casualty in the spring session of the Tantramar Seniors College. “After much discussion and thought by the board, the college had decided that the safest and most prudent thing to do is immediately cancel classes,” senior’s college president Heather Patterson said. “All winter 2020 classes (have ended) and the spring 2020 registration and classes are cancelled. Our greatest hope is that we will be able to resume classes in September.” Patterson said the college’s demographic of 55 and older is the one most drastically affected by the virus with a death rate well above the average. Seniors are also people who do a lot of international travel. Patterson said the board feels it would be irresponsible to put the health of the members, instructors, volunteers, and their families at risk. The annual general meeting of the college is scheduled for June 25. The board will monitor the progress of the pandemic and will keep all members informed of the status of the meeting.
