Summerside extends winning streak to 14



SUMMERSIDE – The Summerside Western Capitals extended their winning streak to 14 games, scoring 17 goals with a pair of Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) wins last weekend. Marc Richard had three goals and two assists, and Josh MacDonald had three goals and an assist to lead Summerside to a 9-1 win over the Grand Falls Rapids on Saturday, Nov. 20, in Summerside. Landon Clow scored a pair of goals for Summerside, with Ed McNeill adding a goal and two assists. Aaron Brown and Brendan McCarthy each had two assists, with Sam Dow, Thomas Lacombe and Logan Kelly-Murphy each adding single helpers. Dominic LeBlanc scored the lone goal for Grand Falls. Summerside led 4-0 after one period and 8-1 after two. Jacob Leblanc faced 24 shots in the Summerside net, while Gio DiMattia faced 16 shots and Nicholas Heinzle 14 in the Grand Falls net. MacDonald was the game’s first star, with Richard earning second-star honours. Third star was Colby MacArthur. On Thursday, Nov. 18, Summerside rolled to an 8-1 win over the Fredericton Red Wings as Brown scored two goals and added two assists and Lacombe and MaxAntoine Melancon each had a goal and three assists. MacArthur and Sid McNeill each had a goal and two assists, with MacDonald scoring once and adding an assist and McCarthy scoring once. Isaac Wilson and Richard each had single assists. Andrew Gweon scored the lone goal for Fredericton. Mavrick Goyer saved 30 of 31 shots in the Summerside net, with Matias Savoie facing 37 shots for Fredericton. The two teams were tied 1-1 after one period and Summerside led 4-1 after two. Brown was the first star for Summerside, with Lacombe being named the second star and Sid McNeill the third star. Summerside has a threegame weekend coming up as the Amherst Ramblers come to Island Petroleum Energy Centre on Thursday while the Western Capitals are in Truro on Friday before returning home to face the Edmundston Blizzard on Saturday. All three games are at 7 p.m. Summerside sits atop the 12-team MHL and the Eastlink North with a record of 16-1-1 in 18 games. The Capitals’ 33 points are nine better than second-place Edmundston at 11-3-2-24, while Fredericton is in third at 106-1-21. Campbellton is in fourth 8-5-3-19, Grand Falls sits in fifth with a record of 7-10-014 and Miramichi is in sixth at 3-12-3-9. Yarmouth leads the Eastlink South at 12-6-2-26, with Amherst in second at 11-62-24 and Valley in third at 10-8-1-21. Truro is in fourth at 7-7-1-15. Pictou County is in fifth (5-9-1-11) and South Shore in sixth (4-13-1-9).
