Summerside Western Capital player drafted to NHL
SUMMERSIDE — Four Prince Edward Islanders have received invitations to National Hockey League rookie camps.
Summerside native and 20-year-old Bennett MacArthur, a forward with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, is off to the Arizona Coyotes’ camp. MacArthur’s teammate with the Titan, defenceman Zach Biggar, will attend the New Jersey Devils’ camp. Biggar, 18, is from Portage. Defenceman Charlie DesRoches of Days Corner and forward Thomas Casey of Charlottetown have received invitations to attend the Buffalo Sabres’ camp. DesRoches, 19, plays with the QMJHL’s Saint John Sea Dogs, and the 21-year-old Casey graduated from the Charlottetown Islanders of the QMJHL last season. Casey has committed to play for the UNB Reds of the Atlantic University Sport Men’s Hockey Conference. Biggar, DesRoches and MacArthur played major under-15 hockey with the O’Leary-based Prince County Warriors and all three are former players with the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild major under-18 program
Biggar and MacArthur were also teammates with the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals’ junior A team during the 2019-20 season.
