Man sentenced for driving while impaired by meth

SUMMERSIDE – An Alberton man has pleaded guilty to one count of driving while impaired by methamphetamine.

Brock James McCarthy, 23, pleaded guilty in Summerside provincial court on July 7. The charges are from Nov. 3, 2020, in Northport.

McCarthy was arrested after an RCMP officer on patrol noticed a red Honda Civic parked on a shore road. The driver was acting unusually while behind the wheel, so the officer approached to check on him. McCarthy was given a roadside screening test, which he failed. He was arrested and a subsequent blood test showed the presence of meth in his system.

McCarthy was sentenced to serve three days in jail, was fined $1,000, must pay a $300 victim surcharge and is prohibited from driving for a year.
