Violating Alberta probation sends P.E.I. man to jail

SUMMERSIDE – A 46-yearold Prince County man was sentenced to 240 days in jail for a long list of charges and many breaches of an Alberta probation order.

Daniel Desmond Crowder, 46, appeared in Summerside provincial court recently via video link from custody.

Crowder pleaded guilty to nine charges of breaching probation, one charge of flight from police, one charge of having a restricted or prohibited weapon in a vehicle and two charges of possessing a prohibited weapon.

Judge Krista MacKay said the facts of the matter are convoluted but began when Crowder fled police on Nov. 10, 2020. That led to more involvement with police and the investigation uncovered a number of prohibited weapons.

“Obviously, issues with weapons are concerning,” said MacKay.

MacKay sentenced Crowder to a total of 240 days in custody. He was given 240 days’ credit for time spent in remand and has zero days left to serve.

Crowder will be under a 12-month driving prohibition and a 10-year weapons prohibition.

He’ll be on probation for 24 months during which he must undergo any assessment, counselling or treatment deemed necessary by his probation officer.

Crowder must also pay $1,600 in victim fine surcharges.
