Charlottetown police have released the name of the person who died suspiciously on St. Peter’s Road on May 1.

“We are now confirming (the) name of the deceased as Nathan Burke, aged 25,” reads a news release from Deputy Chief Brad MacConnell.

An autopsy was being performed Monday and police are awaiting results. Investigators are also following up on tips and all information from the public.

“There is also considerable amount of forensic testing that will need to be completed in the days and weeks ahead as we investigate this very serious matter,” MacConnell said.

The release also offered condolences to the Burke family.

“Our thoughts are with Nathan’s family and friends at this very difficult time. We will continue our work to determine the circumstances surrounding Nathan’s death and also who may be responsible.”

Police will continue to update the public as necessary.

Charlottetown police provided no further information when contacted, and the official who answered was unwilling to provide their full name.

SaltWire Network asked whether anyone had been arrested and how the public can be sure of its safety without this information. SaltWire Network also asked why it took well over 48 hours for any information to be released.

The official would only say, “we’re doing an investigation.”

SaltWire Network also contacted MacConnell but has not yet received a response.

Police are asking anyone who had contact with Burke on Friday, April 30, or Saturday, May 1, to call their non-emergency number at 902-629-4172.
