Rush, Islanders split respective weekend series

Sydney to hit the road this weekend, while Cape Breton West will be home

SYDNEY, N.S. - The Sydney Mitsubishi Rush and Cape Breton West Islanders split their respective Nova Scotia Under-18 Major Hockey League series over the weekend at home.

The Rush picked up a win and a loss to the Cole Harbour Pro Hockey Life Wolfpack at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre.

Cole Harbour defeated Sydney 5-2 on Sunday.

Peyton Cannon scored twice, while Brennan O'Donnell, Luke Dooley, and Elijah Rivera also added goal for the Wolfpack.

Keegan O'Neill and Hudson Clarke responded with goals for the Rush.

Cole Harbour's Jackson Hurley made 25 saves. Sydney's Johnathan Coombs stopped 19 of 23 shots before being replaced by William Stonehouse, who stopped nine of 10 shots in his 14:29 of relief.

On Saturday, the Rush edged the Wolfpack 5-4.

Luke Sinclair had two goals and an assist, while Andrew Campbell, Tyler Seymour and Malcolm MacDonald buried single markers for the Rush (1-3-0-0).

Ethan Hines had two goals, while Dooley and Jack Sangster replied with markers for the Wolfpack (2-1-0-0).

Sydney's Stonehouse made 34 saves. Cole Harbour's Sam Madgett turned aside 14 of 19 shots.

In Port Hood, the Islanders picked up a win and a loss to the South Shore Mustangs at the Al MacInnis Sports Centre.

The Mustangs doubled the Islanders 4-2 on Sunday.

Brodie Wood had a hat trick, scoring three times, while Landen Garber also netted a goal for the Mustangs (1-3-0-0).

Campbell Barrett and Cohen Pictou replied with goals for the Islanders (1-3-0-0).

South Shore's Cohen Stoddard made 15 saves. Cape Breton West's Neil MacLean turned aside 15 of 19 shots.

On Saturday, Jack Hayne's third-period goal proved to be the game-winner as Cape Breton West edged South Shore 2-1.

Campbell MacIntyre also found the back of the net for the Islanders.

Nolan Wilkie had the lone goal for the Mustangs.

Cape Breton West's Rhyah Stewart made 23 saves while also making Islanders' franchise history, becoming the first female goaltender to record a victory for the team.

South Shore's Graydon Mole made 17 saves in the loss.

Sydney will be on the road this weekend for a pair of games against the Weeks Majors of Pictou County, while Cape Breton West will be home to host the Halifax McDonald's.
