Fulcher Foundation providing funding to Mi’kmaw Nationhood

MEMBERTOU — The Mi’kmaw Nationhood is partnering with the Fulcher Foundation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for support and funding.

The MOU is not legally binding, but it will provide $186,500 to support the Mi’kmaq Grand Council and many research and communication initiatives.

Assembly of First Nations regional chief Paul Prosper said while no financial commitment exists past the given amount, the foundation is committed to creating a lasting partnership with the Mi’kmaq.

“Further financial support from the foundation, if any, will reflect the ongoing relationship and initiatives we establish through our partnership,” added Prosper.

The Fulcher Foundation seeks to improve the quality of life in the province through inclusiveness and the development of rural economic growth and sustainability.

“The MOU will promote harmony and wellbeing between nations by providing a practical model for resolving common issues and concerns,” said Fulcher Foundation board of directors’ chair Wayne Fulcher.

“It will support an improved understanding, individually and collectively, and will provide a solid basis to build mutual respect, trust and confidence.”
