CBU part of Giving Tuesday fundraiser

SYDNEY — Cape Breton University is participating in Giving Tuesday to support the CBU students' union food bank.

According to a news release, the J and W Murphy Foundation will match CBU and other university fundraising efforts with a guaranteed minimum donation of $3,500.

The private foundation supports many initiatives in Nova Scotia and focuses on education and health care.

Last year, donations to CBU's Giving Tuesday efforts raised more than $14,000 to support the CBU students' union food security program.

CBU students' union president Madyln O'Brien said last year's fundraising effort showed how much the Cape Breton community cared.

“From last year's donations, we were able to implement a healthy breakfast program, expand the on-campus food bank, increase home deliveries and support students who had to self-isolate by offering doorstep drop-offs, said O'Brien.

Those looking to donate can do so at CBU.ca/give.
