HEMPHILL, Cheryl

1959-2021

It's with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cheryl Hemphill on

Oct. 23, 2021, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care with family and friends at her side. Cheryl was a fiercely devoted daughter, mother, teacher and friend. She was well known in the community as a figure skating teacher in her earlier years. As an adult, she continued this love of children as an early childhood educator, where she worked at Sydney Day Care for many years. Left behind to mourn are her son Matthew and grandson Noah (Grande Prairie, Alberta), brothers, Barry (Barb) Ontario, Blaine (Ontario), sister, Maureen (Maggie) Kentville and many extended family members.

Also left to mourn are her cousin/sister Jody Moore and her best friends Liz MacDonald and Mary Ozon. Cheryl was predeceased by her son Noah, father Walter, mother Eileen (Madore) Hemphill. Cheryl will always be remembered for her kind smile, fun sense of humour and infectious laughter. Special thanks to Dr. Steve MacDougall, My Cape Breton Home for Seniors and Harbourstone Enhanced Care staff. Funeral home arrangements are under the care and directions of the Pier Community Funeral Home. At

Cheryl’s request, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society or the SPCA Sydney.
