Capers soccer teams post win, tie

SYDNEY — The Cape Breton Capers soccer teams picked up a win and a tie against the Dalhousie Tigers in Atlantic University Sport action at the Cape Breton Health Recreation Complex Turf, Sunday.

The men's team blanked the Dalhousie Tigers 3-0.

Kairo Coore scored twice, while Charlie Waters chipped in with a goal for the Capers (6-1-3), who clinched a playoff spot with the victory.

With the loss, the Tigers record falls to 4-3-3.

Cape Breton's Daniel Clarke made five saves. Dalhousie's Aiden Rushenas stopped 10 of 13 shots.

Meanwhile, in women's play, the Capers (7-0-3) and Tigers (4-2-4) battled to a 0-0 draw.

Cape Breton's Haley Kardas stopped all four shots she faced, while Dalhousie's Annabel Gravely also made four saves in the contest.

The Capers soccer teams will wrap up the regular season next weekend in Halifax. The teams will play the Saint Mary's Huskies on Friday with the women on the pitch at 5 p.m. and the men at 7:15 p.m. The clubs will play Dalhousie on Saturday with the women slated for 3 p.m., followed by the men at 5:15 p.m.
