Capers win consolation game

ANTIGONISH — The Cape Breton Capers men's basketball team claimed the consolation game at the Coack K Invitational tournament in Antigonish on Sunday.

The Capers defeated the New Brunswick Reds 81-60 in the contest.

Osman Omar had a gamehigh 25 points for the Capers, while Cooper Ward had 14 points off the bench. CJ Bennett also chipped in with 12 points in the game.

Chris Spurrell led the offence for New Brunswick with 17 points, while Tyrell Leotaud and Norm Burry both dropped 12 points apiece.

In the semifinal game on Saturday, Cape Breton fell 85-62 to the Dalhousie Tigers.

Alex Carson had 23 points for the Tigers, while Shamar Burrows recorded 15 points and Ben Shoveller posted 11 points off the bench.

Diangelo Woodside powered the offence for Cape Breton with 15 points, while Omar had 10 points. Izaiah Ugoalah scored six points off the bench.

Cape Breton will open the Atlantic University Sport regular season on Friday when they host the Dalhousie Tigers at 8 p.m. at Sullivan Field House in Sydney.
