MACDONALD, Vincent William

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Vincent William Macdonald on Thursday July 15, 2021. Born in Sydney on August 21, 1939 to John Joe and Winifred (Doolan) Macdonald. He is survived by his sister, Shirley (Jack) Lappin and brother, John Macdonald. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary T Macdonald. He will be missed greatly by his nieces, Amanda Bollinger, Jacqueline (George) Lappin, Pam

(Mark) Lappin and nephews, Kevin and Kenny Lappin. Vince was a quiet, kind, generous and humble man. He was a proud ‘Grand Lake Roader’ and true Leaf’s fan who remained hopeful they would take home the Cup. Vince held broad interests in history, movies, music and sports. He had a keen intellect and a natural curiosity, which never wavered. He was the keeper of our family history and was often called upon to remember details of various family connections and events. Vince will be remembered as someone who loved his family dearly. He

was a care giver to his mother and sister and always was a father figure to Amanda. His greatest joy was his regular phone calls and visits from Amanda and her children, Quinn and Lilly

Bollinger. They were his pride and joy. Vince struggled with Pulmonary Fibrosis for several years. As his health declined, he accepted his faith with courage and self-determination. He chose to remain at home and died peacefully in his sleep. Our family expresses our deepest appreciation to everyone who offered Vince and our family support, including Dr. Buhariwalla, Dr. Brake and Nurse Wendy from the Aspire Program, VON, Meals on Wheels, Golden Girls

Homecare, Rosemary from Continuing Care and Palliative Care. We are especially grateful to the tenants in his building, who were so kind to him over the years. Your

words of support and quiet presence were a source of comfort to us. As a final act

of selflessness, Vince’s wish to donate his body to Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine was fulfilled. There will be no service, at his request, but his ashes will be interred at St. Theresa’s parish cemetery at a later date. Please remember him in your thoughts and by doing a kind

deed or donating to a charity of your choice. “Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day”.
