REID, Catherine (Kay) New Waterford.

It is with great sadness that we, the family of Catherine (Kay) Reid, announce her peaceful passing on May 5, 2021. Kay was born in Inverness on January 28, 1934, the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Lizzie Russell) Copley. Growing-up in Inverness, mom came from a very athletic family and eventually gravitated to playing baseball; a joy she carried throughout her life. Mom was also an extremely loyal Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Blue Jays fan and was always willing and ready to banter with the best of them. Mom was a proud member of the CWL. Over the past five years, mom called the Maple Hill Manor home. She received outstanding love and care from all of the staff, she often said they treated her “just like family.” Mom thrived at the Manor. She enjoyed painting, bowling with fellow residents, to hear it from her, she was the “Ace” still competitive to the very end. As the matriarch of our family, mom was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends. She always recognized the positive in everyone. On June 25, 2007, our dad, her husband and best friend, William (Bill) Reid passed. Kay is survived by her children, Bill (Cheryl) Reid, Saint John, NB, Betty Lou (George) Bisson, New Waterford, Patsy (Jim) Evans, Halifax, Mary Ann (Bobby) Donohue, Victoria Mines, Russell (Tanya) Reid, Sackville, and daughter-inlaw, Dawn Hollohan, Sydney. She was Nanny Reid to her grandchildren, Nicole, George, Erin, Jamie, Conner, Brianne, Brydon, Brett, Alexis, Josie, Morgan, Brandon and Liam; great-grandchildren, Emily, Aidan, Bella, Laila, Grace, Isiah, Deryck, Jude, Will, Ada and James; great-great-grandchildren, Nate and Theo. Kay is also survived by sister, Genevieve (Gen) Macmillan; brothers, Eddie (Marie) Copley, Junior Copley, Russell (Trudy) Copley, and Jimmy (Ann) Copley, all from Inverness. As well as many nieces and nephews. Kay was predeceased by her son, Timmy Sutherland of Sydney and sisters, Georgina Copley, Jean Walker, and Caroline Walker of Inverness. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation due to Covid-19 restrictions. A private family service in celebration of Kay’s life will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of V.J. Mcgillivray Funeral Home in New Waterford. To send online condolences, go to: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
