Eagles to participate in QMJHL draft lottery Tuesday

SYDNEY — The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League will hold its annual draft lottery on Tuesday for the 2021 entry draft, scheduled for next month.

The Cape Breton Eagles will participate in the draft lottery after the club finished the regular season 17th overall in the league standings.

Cape Breton will have six balls (or six opportunities to win) in the lottery and a 28 per cent chance of landing the first overall pick on June 25.

The Baie-comeau Drakkar have the best odds of winning the lottery. The Drakkar, who finished 18th overall, will have nine balls in the lottery and a 43 per cent chance of getting the top pick.

The Sherbrooke Phoenix (three balls — 14 per cent chance), Quebec Remparts (two balls — 10 per cent chance), and the Halifax

Mooseheads (one ball — five per cent chance) will also participate in the lottery event.

Once a team's pick has been drawn, it is removed from the process. This process is repeated following each draw. However, if Baie-comeau is not drawn first or second, they will automatically be awarded the third overall selection.

Cape Breton cannot pick lower than fourth overall due to their 17th-place finish.

The draft lottery will be take place at 4:30 p.m. Atlantic time on the league's official Facebook page. The lottery will be supervised by an independent third party.
