Trial set on weapon offences

SYDNEY — One of two accused facing weapon offences has been assigned a trial date while an arrest warrant is now being held for the second person charged.

Brandon Mitchell Maxwell, 27, of Villa Nova, Dominion, and Elizabeth Anne Yorke, 26, of Wood Street, Glace Bay, are both facing three counts of careless storage of a weapon (a SKS rifle) and ammunition, and single counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, possession of weapon with no licence, possession of a weapon knowing they had no licence, and possession of a high capacity magazine with no licence. Maxwell faces an additional count of possession of a weapon while prohibited.

The offences are alleged to have occurred Feb. 3 in Glace Bay. Yorke has entered not guilty pleas to the charges and is now scheduled to stand trial in provincial court Jan. 10.

A warrant is being held for Maxwell's next court appearance June 30. Should he fail to attend, the warrant will be released for arrest.
