Muriel Emeneau dies at age 104

EMENEAU, Muriel Aileen

Of Dartmouth died peacefully on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, age 104, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born at home in October 1917 to Harry Malcolm and Annie Mildred (Taylor) Clark in Windsor, Hants Co., named for the nurse who assisted at her birth, and known to family as "Bud", short for Rosebud. Muriel was the beloved wife of the late Franklin Emeneau and loving mother of Judi (Caleb) Fishman, Bryne (Janice) and Joan (the late Jake) Wttewaall; as well as proud grandmother of Jonathan, Daniel and Andrew Fishman, Michael (Joanne) Emeneau and Charlotte (George) Polychronis, Nicole (Graeme) Bailey and Gerard (Amy) Wttewaall; great-grandmother of the late Fayth Emeneau, Jillian (Peter) Quosai and Grace (Mike) Mcquarrie, Sadie, Theo and Spencer Polychronis and Arthur Jake Wttewaall. Muriel was predeceased by brothers, Francis and Russell; and sisters, Edythe Nelson and Mildred James. Loving music, young Muriel, having taught herself to whistle, would mischievously challenge family and friends to identify the melodies. Over the years, she took part in musical dramas, joined the Kazoo Kuties and sang in annual dramatic productions of the Dartmouth Seniors` Choir. She was always curious, had beautiful handwriting and created many tailored outfits, knitting and crocheting for herself and her children. She even tried her hand at hat-making and was known at Parkstone as the Hat Lady. Mom was a long-time member of Dartmouth First Baptist Church taking part in the Senior WMS where she led worship and as a born comedian, loving to make others laugh, brightened the lives of shut-ins. Mom had a great sense of adventure travelling to Alaska, Europe, Mexico, Hawaii and on a 30-day motorcoach tour from Dartmouth to California missing an earthquake in San Francisco by only one day! Muriel will be remembered for her love of life, laughter and thoughtfulness for others as well as her definite opinions.

The family wishes to thank all those residents and staff who became a friend to Mom during her stay at The Dartmouth Berkeley, Shannex at the Lakes Lewis Hall and Parkstone Extended Care in Clayton Park, Halifax. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 28th from 6-8 p.m. with a Celebration of Life service officiated by Rev. Gavin Mccombie on Wednesday, June 29th at 2 p.m., both in Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., in downtown Dartmouth. Masks are recommended. No reception following the service due to COVID-19. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made in honour of Muriel to Life Branch Church to assist with the creation of green space through projects like the construction of a walking trail for prayer and reflection, and a community garden. Online condolences may be sent to: www.mattatallfuneralhome.com
