ROY, Dr. Gregory L.

Age 75, of Dartmouth, N.S. passed away peacefully on November 16, 2023, at home. Born in Liverpool, N.S. on December 9, 1947, he was the son of Frank and Marjorie Roy. After graduating from Acadia with an Engineering degree, he attended TUNS before pursuing his career in Medicine. Dr. Roy graduated from Dalhousie University Medical School in 1975. After completing his internship, he joined the Woodlawn Medical Clinic in 1977. This started his long and meaningful career in Dartmouth. For over 30 years, he served the community in many different roles at the Dartmouth General Hospital, working in the emergency department, in-patient care, and assisting in the operating rooms - all while running a busy practice. He retired in 2016. In recognition of his contribution to healthcare in Dartmouth, the DGH Foundation has renamed the Pulmonary Function Lab to the Dr. Gregory L. Roy Pulmonary Function Lab. Survived by siblings, Sharon Ellis (Keith), Darlene Connolly, Wanda Roy (Gillian), Darrell, Carla Roy (Anna); nephew, Lee Ellis; nieces, Kelly and Kim Connolly; great-nieces, Sophia and Sadie Whynot; and greatnephew, Justin Scott. Predeceased by his parents; nephew, Kevin Ellis; brothers-in-law, Norman Ellis, Bill Connolly and John Yogis. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, at 1 p.m. Atlantic Funeral Home, Dartmouth. Rev. Ivan Gregan officiating. The service will be Live-streamed. Private family burial at a later date. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the DGH Foundation or a charity of your choice.
