Capers squads topple Reds

SYDNEY — The Cape Breton Capers men’s and women’s basketball teams both earned wins on home court as they hosted the New Brunswick Reds in Atlantic University Sport hard court action Saturday at Sullivan Field House. Shakael Pryce and Tyson Cato led the Capers with a game-high 19 points apiece, while each collected seven rebounds, as Cape Breton (4-3) defeated the Reds (3-4) 87-66. Pryce also added three assists and Justus Peuser hit double figures, with 12, while chipping in six assists and four rebounds. Norm Burry led the Reds with 17, while Marcus Barnes had a double-double — 13 points and 10 rebounds — in the loss. WOMEN HAND REDS FIRST LOSS Meanwhile, the Capers women handed the Reds team its first loss of the regular season with a 93-82 win. Chermensa van la Parra led the Capers (4-3) with a gamehigh 24 points, while Hailey MacLeod and Kiyara Letlow both fashioned double-doubles, with 21 points and 12 rebounds apiece. Erin Ingalls led the Reds (6-1) with 21 points, while adding five rebounds and three assists, while Katie Butts chipped in 15 points and eight rebounds. Both Capers teams will return to action this weekend when they travel to St. John’s, N.L., for games against the Memorial SeaHawks on Friday and Saturday.
