Wildcats claw past Eagles in 2-1 win

SYDNEY — Yoan Loshing provided all of the Moncton Wildcats offence in a 2-1 victory over the Cape Breton Eagles on Saturday night at Centre 200.

Loshing opened the scoring with a powerplay marker in the first period then added another goal minute during a four-on-four in the second. Conor Shortall scored the lone Cape Breton goal in the third period to cut the Moncton lead in half, but the Eagles were unable to even things up despite swarming the Moncton goal after pulling goaltender Nicolas Ruccia with just over a minute remaining.

Moncton’s Jacob Steinman stopped 28 of 29 in the win while Ruccia turned aside 25 of 27 in defeat.

With the loss, Cape Breton falls below .500 on the season with a 11-12-0-0 record.

The Eagles were back on home ice Sunday hosting the Charlottetown Islanders for the first time this season.
