SYDNEY — The Strait Pirates went 1-1 and the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles lost twice as two Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League teams from Cape Breton played on the road this weekend. Callum McClellan scored two goals and assisted on Landon MacIntosh’s marker on Saturday as the Pirates lost 5-3 to the host Southshore Lumberjacks at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre in Bridgewater. Alec Howie potted a pair of goals for the Lumberjacks while Joe Osborne, Owen Cleary and Daniel Kline also scored. Kegan Greencorn turned aside 28 of 31 shots in nets for the win while Dan Morrison stopped 34 of 39 in the loss. On Friday, a 43-save performance from Alejandro Martinez led the way for the Pirates in a 3-2 victory over the over the Valley Maple Leafs at the West Hants Sports Complex in Windsor, N.S. Landon MacIntosh opened the scoring in the first period and added an assist on the eventual game-winner from Luke Baldwin midway through the third frame. Dave Matthews contributed the other goal while Danny Gillis contributed two assists for Strait. Ben McCarthy and Nahshon Thomas respond on the scoresheet for the Maple Leafs. Kayden Kuryluk had assists on both goals. Jackson Murphy made 23 saves for Valley in the loss.
