THE NEWS @NGNEWS

MONCTON – The Weeks U18 Majors showed their firepower and the ability to play in tight-checking games during the Monctonian AAA Challenge.

The Pictou County squad began their tournament with a 12-1 domination of Western Kings, P.E.I.

Weeks then skated to a 5-5 draw with the Charlottetown Knights, who eventually went on to win the tourney.

In their third game, the U18 Majors opened the floodgates again and overwhelmed the King’s Edgehill Highlanders 15-2. That gave Pictou County a 2-0-1 record in the round-robin portion of the tournament and a berth in the playoff round.

They scored 32 goals in their three games while allowing just eight.

Pictou County then edged Steele Subaru 2-1 in OT in their playoff opener before falling to the Halifax Macs by the same 2-1 score, although this time in regulation.

The Knights beat Fredericton 4-3 for the championship title.

The Weeks U18 Majors next play Saturday, Nov. 26 in league action in Cole Harbour against the Wolfpack.
