RCMP investigating weekend incidents

A Belliveau Cove, Digby County, man is facing several charges after police responded to a report of gunshots fired at a home.

The RCMP said police responded to a complaint of an unknown disturbance at a home on Belle Vue Street, around 10:30 a.m. on May 7. The first officer on the scene witnessed a man exiting the home with a firearm and heard a shot being fired.

RCMP officers evacuated surrounding homes, secured the area, and closed off the road. Additional officers were dispatched from the Yarmouth rural, Yarmouth town and Digby RCMP detachments. RCMP Police Dog Services, the Nova Scotia Emergency Response Team, and a hostage negotiator were also activated.

Officers arrested a 23-yearold man shortly before 11:40 a.m. He was transported to the Meteghan RCMP Detachment and held in custody.

Dawson Laurie Comeau has been charged with careless use of a firearm, two counts of pointing a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, uttering threats, mischief, and resisting arrest. His first court appearance was slated for Digby provincial court on May 9. The investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, the RCMP are also investigating another incident that occurred in the region over the weekend. On Sunday, May 8, the RCMP said it had responded to an overnight stabbing incident that had taken place in Weymouth. During the day on Sunday, Route 1 was closed between the Irving Gas Station and Highway 340 as the police investigated.

“One person has been arrested and remains in custody,” the RCMP said Sunday. “The victim suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital.”
