Summerside conducting survey to understand local business needs

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The City of Summerside's Economic Development Department is conducting a survey to understand the local business community's needs and how to serve it better.

The department is looking to understand the objectives and needs of local businesses and how owners and managers view the community as a place to do business.

The information gathered from the survey will be used to plan economic development activities focused on top priorities.

The city retained consulting company Deloitte LLP to help with the project.

Deloitte will be working with city staff to review the completed surveys for challenges and opportunities facing the local business community.

Businesses are encouraged to take part in the survey online or by telephone and may be contacted between Nov. 21 and Dec. 16.

The survey should take at most 15 minutes to finish, said the city.

Mike Thususka, the city's director of economic development, said business retention and expansion are the cornerstones of the City's Department of Economic Development.

“Ensuring that our local business community is effectively served by the City's lead economic development agency is our primary purpose,” said Thususka.

“Through this survey, we hope to learn what opportunities and challenges our businesses face and ensure we connect businesses with resources available through our networks and services that are aligned with our program delivery.”

The project will launch in mid-November and last until mid-January 2023.
