Suspended sentence for assault

Christopher Robin Roy, 36, of Dartmouth, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for assaulting a police constable with intent to resist lawful arrest.

Roy changed his plea to guilty on June 13. The matter was adjourned for sentencing. On Nov. 10, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Roy a suspended sentence with 15 months of probation.

Roy committed the offence in Canning on Dec. 12, 2020. Charges of committing mischief by willfully interfering with an individual's lawful enjoyment of property; and resisting a police officer engaged in the execution of his duty by assaulting the officer were withdrawn on Nov. 10.

Suspended sentence for mischief

Tyler Coyne, 42, of New Minas, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for committing mischief by willfully damaging an individual's vehicle to a value not exceeding $5,000.

Coyne changed his plea to guilty on Sept. 15. The matter was adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing. On Nov. 9, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Coyne a suspended sentence with 12 months of probation.

Coyne committed the offence in New Minas on May 18, 2021.

Caused disturbance, undertaking offence

Mohamed Ali Saad, 40, of no fixed address, has been fined for causing a disturbance in or near a public place by screaming, shouting, swearing, or using obscene or insulting language; and for failing to comply with a condition of an undertaking.

Saad was present in Kentville provincial court, in custody, on Nov. 9. He changed his plea to guilty on the undertaking charge and pleaded guilty to the charge of causing a disturbance. Judge Christopher Manning fined Saad $100 on each count, for a total of $200 in fines.

Saad committed the offences in Kentville on Nov. 26 and 28, 2020. Another count of causing a disturbance in or near a public place was dismissed on Nov. 9.

Time deemed served

Robert Wayne Cromwell, 27, of Beaver Bank, has been sentenced to time deemed served for possessing a stolen 2018 Chevrolet Silverado of a value exceeding $5,000.

Cromwell changed his plea to guilty on Nov. 8. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek sentenced Cromwell to 120 days in custody. He was given credit at time-and-a-half for 80 days spent remanded in custody, or 120 days, for a net sentence of one day deemed served.

Cromwell committed the offence in Coldbrook on March 17, 2020.
