While growing up in Lunenburg, Jeff Green played a variety of sports from a young age. His parents made sure of it. Now Green is providing the same opportunities for his three children, and through his job as the general manager at the Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre he’s helping the resort support Sport Nova Scotia programs. The sponsorship deal started earlier this year. Green says it was an easy decision to get involved, knowing the positive outcomes from sport. “It’s very valuable,” he says. “It teaches team-building, discipline, respect, how to be a good person, social skills, leadership, and so when the opportunity came up I was like, ‘Absolutely, we’d be happy to jump on board.’ ” The Oak Island resort, known for its beautiful coastal views and bustling marina, has already stepped up in a major way. It provides vacation packages for grand prizes for four key Sport Nova Scotia programs. The resort’s in-kind donation of two nights in a twobedroom chalet and a $500 food and beverage credit goes to two SportSweep campaigns, the SportSplit early bird prize, the IG Wealth Management Ceilidh and Casino, and the Reindeer Games team raffle. Green attended the IG Wealth Management Ceilidh and Casino in support of KidSport, and the Oak Island resort will enter a team in the Reindeer Games on Nov. 17 at the Canada Games Centre in Halifax. The Games raise funds for Sport Nova Scotia programs such as Parasport, KidSport, and Sport Fund. Hotel staff received Sport Nova Scotia swag at a recent rally to raise awareness about the sponsorship. “It has been a great two-way partnership, 100 per cent,” Green says. “Every time we do a marketing initiative or sponsor an event, I always let the team know so they can get involved and get engaged.”
