Berwick recommends council size remains the same

Berwick councillors think town council’s size is just right.

They have recommended the status quo to the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board following its regular review. Municipalities in the province are required to conduct a review every eight years.

Currently, there are six councillors and a mayor elected at large in town, which is 6.53 square kilometres. The latest population figures show there are 2,455 residents.

The town conducted a survey of residents with 32 people responding. Of those, 15 favoured four councillors and the mayor while 12 voted for the status quo.
