Broken Glass being performed in Wolfville
Play explores the strength, resiliency, and hope of Halifax Explosion survivors
After a three-year hiatus, The Lighthouse Theatre Company is back in full force with a new play called Broken Glass being performed at The Al Whittle Theatre in Wolfville.
Local playwright Allen D. Hume, whose works have trod the boards in Wolfville, Kentville and Margaretsville, returns to the stage with his latest effort and it’s a historical fiction piece set during the Halifax Explosion.
Take a trip back in time to December 1917, when two ships collided in the Halifax Harbour. When the Mont-Blanc exploded it killed more than 1,500 people and wounded 9,000 more. Many of those injuries were caused by broken glass. The play explores the strength, resiliency, and hope maintained by some of the survivors.
The show stars Mike Butler, Ryan MacNab, Linda
Levy Fisk, Candy O’Brien,
Penny Nelson and Allen Hume. It follows the success of Hume’s plays Coins, The
Lighthouse, The Golf, Cheese and Chess Society and Creely Mountain Law. It will be performed March 17 and 18 at 7 p.m. with a matinee Saturday, March 18, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults or $15 for seniors and students and can be purchased at the door.
