Halifax eliminates Valley from under-18 playoffs

Eric Halliday scored the overtime winner as the Halifax McDonalds completed the sweep of the Kohltech Valley Wildcats in Nova Scotia Under-18 Major Hockey League quarter-final action March 6 in Berwick.

Luc Legere, Bailey Shortall and Casey Wentzell also scored in the victory.

James Richards, Luke Foley and Aidan Bent scored for Valley with assists going to Kaden Stokvis, Luke Jardine, Owen MacDermid and Foley.

Nathan Mills made 36 saves for the win while Samuel Sinclair stopped 43 shots in the loss.

Halifax led 1-0 after the first period while the teams went to the third tied 2-2.

Halifax won the first two games of the best-of-five series 4-1 and 7-4, respectively. Halifax is playing top-ranked Weeks in the semifinals while Steele Subaru and Cole Harbour Pro Hockey Life Wolfpack are playing in the other bestof-five series.

Bent was named the league’s most improved player. Defenceman Ryan Fletcher was named a first team all-star while goalie Chase Crowell made the second team. Luke Foley made the rookie all-star squad. Derek Bent was the team’s volunteer of the year.
