Men arrested after weapons complaint

ATLANTIC BRIEFS DESK sw-briefs@saltwire.com

Annapolis District RCMP arrested two men following a weapons complaint recently in Nictaux.

Around 9 p.m. on March 8, RCMP responded to a report of a man believed to be in possession of a long gun near a gas station.

The suspect was not located when officers arrived at the scene minutes later. However, a witness provided officers with the name of a 45-yearold Nictaux man, leading police to a nearby home on Highway 201.

While containing the home, officers stopped a vehicle that was heading towards the residence.

The driver was told not to approach, but police said he refused to listen and drove into the driveway of the home, left his vehicle and tried to enter the residence.

Police said the driver was arrested for obstruction and began resisting but was eventually taken into custody without further issue.

Not long after, the suspect in the weapons incident left the home and was arrested. RCMP officers discovered he had been carrying a long flashlight, and no firearm was involved in the incident.

During the arrest, officers seized brass knuckles.

The 45-year-old Nictaux man was released from custody and will be facing charges of possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The other man, a 74-yearold from Nictaux, was released from custody and will be facing charges of obstructing a peace officer and resisting arrest.

Both men are set to appear in Annapolis Royal provincial court on May 23.

The incident remains under investigation by Annapolis District RCMP.
