Anita Anand

• Who – A Kentville native and Canada’s national defence minister.

• Local connection – She grew up in Kentville before moving to Ontario to attend university in 1985.

• Profession – She has worked as a scholar, lawyer and researcher. She was first elected as the member of Parliament for Oakville in Ontario in 2019 and re-elected in 2021.

• Personal – Anand and her husband John Knowlton have raised four children in Oakville.

• The latest – Anand attended a Kings-Hants Liberal Association Fundraiser June 24 in Lower Wolfville. Anand said her father, Dr. S.V. Anand, asked for a guest list and she was looking forward to sharing stories about her trip home with him.
