NEED TO KNOW
Some information about the Guinness World Records.
History – Guinness World Records traces its history to the early 1950s when Sir Hugh Beaver, managing director of the Guinness Brewery, attended a shooting party. An argument ensued about the fastest game bird in Europe. No one could find an answer in any reference book. In 1954, Beaver had the idea for a Guinness promotion based on the idea of settling pub arguments. Guinness Superlatives was incorporated on Nov. 30. The first book, compiled by twins Norris and Ross McWhirter, was published after about 13 1/2 weeks. 187,000 books were sold within a year. The fastest game bird is the golden plover.
How many – There are more than 40,000 records in its database, but only about 4,000 records are published in the book each year due space restraints.
Frequently broken records – The Longest DJ marathon, the heaviest item lifted with glue, the most apples bobbed in one minute and the oldest person. The oldest person ever remains Jeanne Louise Calment, who lived to be 122 years and 164 days old.
Record record holder – The individual who holds the most Guinness World Records is Ashrita Furman. At last count he had more than 191 titles. Source – www.guinnessworldrecords.com
