Funding for child fitness projects

ATLANTIC BRIEFS DESK sw-briefs@saltwire.com

Funding has been announced in support of local groups or organizations with new projects to improve youth and children's health through increasing physical activity levels.

Brittany Brydon, an active living coordinator for Berwick, said the grant will provide up to $1,500 for new projects in the western Kings County area, from Cambridge to Kingston, to create opportunities or reduce barriers in order for youth to be more physically active and make healthier overall lifestyle choices.

Priority will be given to non-traditional and creative projects that help inactive young people become active and involve youth in the planning or leadership of the program.

Typically, the grant applications are joint between eastern and western Kings County, but municipalities are launching separate grants this year because of the ongoing pandemic, said Brydon.

The application deadline for western Kings is May 28, while the eastern Kings timeline has yet to be determined.

Interested individuals can contact their local recreation office for more detailed information. Applications can be sent to bbrydon@berwick.ca or faxed to 902-538-724.
